Models! Photographer! Director of Photography! Oh My,
Hi friends,
I am the happiest designer today! We're getting ready to do a photoshoot for the spring and summer line, and I've confirmed three GORGEOUS models, all truly plus size, an incredible team, including a talented photographer and videographer, and am busily figuring out production details. More to come soon, but in the meantime, check out the stunning Farrah Olieri, Maxey Greene, and Allison McGevna.
So excited!!!

Platform checking, should you choose to accept it.
Friends,
I'm writing this blog post for a select few only, before releasing it to the wilds of the Social Media Machine. You may have noticed one HUGE change in Cabiria, which is that we are now going to include size 12 in the line. Don't worry, it will be on a plus size, curvy US 12 measurement format, but I think this will address the desires of a lot of the retailers, consumers, and the general marketplace "tweens" (and I don't mean Bieber fans).
The real reason for this post is that I have been busily incorporating a lot of social media outlets into a cohesive unit: Blogger has changed to Google+, Facebook now supports the business Page more simply, Twitter is active, as is a new Pinterest Account. I am trying to compile everything into a Mailchimp Email list so I can make sure everyone gets the emails I intend to send them (and nothing more), but that's taking longer.
Today I signed into Cabiria's blog on my iPad, and realized that the super cool web font I'd been using for the blog the past 2 months was showing up as a horrible, unreadable, swirly font. Had no idea, because I should have remembered to check across platforms, but I hadn't. It's all now back to Verdana, which should be universal.
PLEASE let me know if you're receiving duplicate notifications from multiple platforms, or if the mobile version is wonky on any devices, or if the blog or website are showing up weird on a specific browser. If there doesn't seem to be anything amiss, wonderful. If there is, please write or DM me immediately, and I'll do everything I can to fix it.
Thank you so very very much, and more soon, once the kinks are worked out!

Enthusiasm and Momentum
You know you're on the right track when you see a mountain of tasks
ahead and you're excited - giddy even- with the anticipated
satisfaction of setting them up and knocking them down. Hopefully
that's healthy...
In any case, I've just met with my samplemaker and we think we have a manufacturer in NYC who can do both samples and production. They do such gorgeous work, and I'm finally (finally!) getting into a groove where the *right* vendors and suppliers will work with me. Not all the hunting, and being able to trust my team is such an immense relief!
I get closer and closer every day, and it feels amazing.
In other news, I have a HUGE announcement coming very soon on the website, and all my social media platforms. I've listened to your feedback and incorporated it a very big deal way. Super exciting and hush hush (unless you've seen the subtle dropped clues)... Any guesses what it could be?
So for now, I leave you with a photo of my grandmother (and her sister) on the beach, July 4th, 1939. She was a beautiful, moon faced, strapping girl, and as evidenced by the many photos my grandfather took of her, he was smitten.
Talk to you soon!

First Season Moving Forward!
Hello faithful readers,
It's been a long time since I've posted, and I'm sorry about that. I've been very busy developing the patterns for the first season of Cabiria, and having them proofed and tweaked. It's so important to me that the fit is true across all the styles, and that we come to market with the best possible pieces.
As I mentioned in my last post in February (oh my goodness!), Michael Bevins at 4 Seasons Fashion is going to be setting up my factory streamlining, so I can start shopping around samples. Once I have the samples in hand, I will be re-pitching to Kickstarter and IndieGoGo in order to raise money for production, complete with benefits for donors.
I really and truly appreciate the support and encouragement of everyone who's been following me and helping me along the way. If I had my druthers, you'd all be wearing Cabiria this very moment, and comparing how awesome you look in the clothes to the photos in the magazines of other hot people wearing Cabiria. As it goes, though, I think when Cabiria launches fully in stores, you'll be really happy with what's being brought to market, and it will only be helped by all the wonderful plus size press that's been coming on lately. For instance, TLC's "Big Sexy" and "Big Brooklyn Style", and the Full Figured Fashion Week events, which are all positive steps forward.
In the meantime, I give you Joy Nash's brilliant, body positive, totally hilarious and biting "Fat Rant 3: Staircase Wit", borrowed from it's feed on YouTube:
Have a fantastic week, and I really can't wait to show you what's next!

Next round, coming up - this time with finesse!
Hi folks!
I know I've been very slow to post and report lately, but there's been movement on the Cabiria front, I promise.
As you saw before, dear readers, I hit a bit of a snag with my plans in Bangkok. When I came back to New York, the extraordinarily talented Michael David Bevins extended technical help my way through his company 4 Seasons Fashion. I'm diligently working away on patterns now, with a real class act providing the art of finesse. Such heartening news!
In the meantime, I leave you with this image from "Mad Men", returning to television in a few weeks. I am obsessed with border prints and the magic that they can do for any figure, slim or plus. Discuss.
Here's to new updates faster, sooner, and with more new dresses!

Lessons Learned are Part of the Process
Hi folks!
I'm back from Thailand, and it was a fantastic trip as a vacation. It was disappointing as a samplemaking venture, however. The head of the shop and I tried very hard to come to an understanding, but there were issues, so it's back to the drawing board for the patterns, literally.
One of the things I've found fascinating about starting this business is that it teaches me that failing in one path is not necessarily a "failure", per se, but an opportunity to learn more about what to do differently in the future. For instance, I've learned that I know more about the patterns than I thought, and I know better how to guide the next patternmaker. I know that the control lost in working with another country, even if I'm standing there trying to explain it, is not the style of work that I've become accustomed to, and quality is lost, so don't try it that way. That second guessing myself is not good as a leadership model. Cool! I got schooled.
I also found a store in Chiang Rai in the north that sells only Plus Sizes, and has the cutest sign! It really is called "XXL", and the lady who owns it, Plooey, is super sweet.
I'm lucky that I have the resources of many friends already in the fashion business to draw upon, and most of them are in New York already. While in Bangkok, I did reconnect with an old college friend who's doing incredibly well with her own fashion brand, chain of stores, diffusion lines, restaurants attached to the retail stores, and soon, a boutique hotel! Her advice to me was indispensable, mostly because she showed me that it's possible to go the independent route and succeed wildly.
If you're in Bangkok, or now Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam, please check out her stores called It's Happened To Be A Closet [sic]. They are a mainstream size line, but very easy to wear, and great design. Kind of like an Asian version of Anthropologie.
Finally, if you ever get to go to Thailand, north or south, you're sure to be inspired. The colors and beauty there are breathtaking, and definitely gave me a refreshing outlook on what's possible next for Cabiria!
Back to New York and back to work on Cabiria. It really is a fascinating process, and will come to fruition, I promise!

Moving forward, one step at a time
Hello friends!
I'm going to be leaving for Thailand in about a week, so I'll be the errant blogger again. However, I am definitely having patterns and first samples made in Bangkok, and I'm extremely thrilled about that. Finally!
I've also been getting extraordinary tips and guidance from wonderful folks who've been in fashion longer than I have. The talented Michael Bevins has been kind enough to steer me towards his team of patternmakers and production facilities here in New York, and both Carl Goldberg of Cego Custom Shirts and Carelli Costumes have also chipped in brain power and resources. I'm a lucky designer indeed!
I'm still trying to figure out how to format a MailChimp newsletter, which they SAY is easy, but it's not my great skill. If anyone wants to help me with that, I'd be ever so grateful. Let me know!
One other great boon about doing all the samples and patterns now is that I'll be putting together both the Spring/Summer samples and Fall/Winter samples, so there's no lag time. Thinking ahead!
Plus, I get to wear pretty dresses this winter, too, like this one:
Everything is coming together, slowly, slowly, then BOOM! It all happens!
