This Week: Delivery, Monday: Photoshoot, Imminently: AW1415 Release!

Hello friends!

My apologies for not posting more frequently, but I've been very busy ushering in the new La Strada per CABIRIA and Cabiria collections, coming out imminently!

Delivery is always frenetic, but that's a very very happy thing.  Here's a few photos from the ironing and finishing area at the factory.

And here's one of our racks getting sorted out for pre-orders.

Some of our great stockists are Bombshell Boutique in St. Paul, MN, Boutique Larrieux in Milwaukee, WI, HeyGorgeous, Madison Plus Select, and MS.SVG in London, UK.  I get so excited shipping these out!

We are also participating in a Pop-up Shop in Chicago on the weekend of September 5th and 6th run by Stephanie Sack (formerly of Vive la femme) and Lydia of Boutique Larrieux.  It will be held at Ganesha Yoga Chicago ONLY that weekend.  Lucky Chicago folks will get a first peek at much of the new line!

In a VERY few days, we'll be shooting our new lookbook and catalog.  As you know, the La Strada per CABIRIA line is our funkier, less expensive line, and we're including a lot of separates to add to our dresses. The collections are called Via Ostia, after the road to the ancient seaside town of Ostia Antica about 15km from Rome.  In the movie "Nights of Cabiria", this road is where Cabiria and Wanda and their friends live and work, and in real life it's a gorgeous archaeological site.  It's also a part of the Roman city perimeter, and thus has a lot of astounding street art along the way.

We'll be working with the stunning Maxey Greene, the face of our company for 3 seasons now, Chearice Vaughn, whom you may remember from the NYFW show last September, and Connie Andrade, whom I'm thrilled to finally work with after all this time.

I can't wait!!!

And then, after all the photos are shot and all the factory items are collected, and everything happens in a moment's time, we anticipate launching the new Via Ostia collection of Cabiria and the Inaugural collection of La Strada per CABIRIA around the first week of September.

Lots more information will be coming soon, so look out!

All the best,
Eden

Autumn Winter 2014 Campo Dei Fiori Collection - Delivery!!!

Hello friends,

It's been a while since I've posted, and there's a reason why: I've been super busy trying to get all the items through our New York City based factory for AW14, and tomorrow we're taking delivery on the clothes!  I can't believe how excited I am about all this, and I can't wait to get them into shops around the globe for you all to wear.

Right around the corner next week we'll have our photoshoot with all these new pieces, and I'm excited to be working with some of the gorgeous models from the NYFW show again, as well as a new face too.  I'm such a lucky woman to work with so much talent!

Frances in the Sofia in B&W Wire Fence at NYFW
Henry S. Dziekan III for Fashion Law Institute
Maxey in the Stella in Orange Pebble & Blue Snakeskin and Flavia in 8-bit Atari in at NYFW

Jourdan, our Plus Model Edie Sedgwick/ Jean Seberg lookalike

In the meantime, we're now stocked all across the US, newly in London, and working on getting into shops in Canada and elsewhere in Europe.  Let me know if there's a place that should carry Cabiria, and we'll try to get in there.
This collection is called Campo Dei Fiori, named after another neighborhood in Rome, which translates to "Field of Flowers".  There is so much pattern and color happening in this collection of favorite shapes from last season and new items like tops and skirts, how could I resist naming the collection after such a riotously beautiful place?

We have the Flavia, a deep pocketed pencil skirt, in 100% satin wool with a great giraffe print or in a dense French brocade that looks like an 8-bit Atari game in chevrons.

We have the Stella, a closed placket long sleeved romantic top in pattern mixes of orange pebbled 100% silk twill and a blue digital snakeskin print in stretch silk charmeuse, or an abstract blue leopard print on 100% silk charmeuse and black silk charmeuse contrast.

We have the Paola, a 100% fine gauge merino wool maxi dress with a twisted keyhole neckline and a unique lining in jade green or huge orange and gold floral, with a different pattern for each person.

We have the Stefania, a long sleeved version of our popular Sofia dress, with a lapel and elasticized waist in luxurious 100% silk Crepe de Chine, silk faille, silk twill, 4-ply silk or merino wool jersey.

And finally, we have new fabrics in our Sofia dress, still in silk jersey, and this time in French apricot bouquets on charcoal black, or black abstract bars on a blue like a clear summer day sky.

Cabiria's also received some incredible press, since the last post, but my absolute favorite is a piece of mail sent from a woman who bought the Sofia in Giant Peony for her honeymoon. I've never met Carrie Malone or her new husband , but she felt good enough in her dress to send me this photo, on Kawaii.  This is why I do what I do, in a nutshell.

I can't wait to share the photoshoot images with you all as well!  Seriously, can not wait.

All the best, Eden

Post-punk bossa nova, anyone?

Hi friends! Lots of details are coming together now, getting the GORGEOUS photos together and editing the behind the scenes video. Exciting news tonight is that we've been granted rights to use the music by fantastic post-punk bossa nova East LA band El Haru Kuroi!

Check out this video of them playing live a little while ago:

Sexy, swinging, and post-punk? Yeah, I think we've got that covered. Talk to you soon!

It's Here!! The Photoshoot is Here!!

Hi friends,

Another short note for you all tonight: I've been working really hard with a bunch of fantastic people, and TOMORROW IS THE PHOTOSHOOT AND VIDEO SHOOT! I'm halfway between terrified and excited beyond measure. Today in the rain, the wonderful Janie Martinez and I went around town picking up and unloading a bunch of gear and food for the shoot, and tomorrow I'm waking up super early to get the photographer, the last of the gear, and WE'RE OFF!

If it rains tomorrow, we won't give up: our contingency plan is "The Umbrellas of Cherbourg", a 1964 French film starring Catherine Deneuve and a bunch of umbrellas...

And of course, the inimitable Giulietta Massina in my favorite film, "Nights of Cabiria"

Raindrops and roses and whiskers on kittens... see you with lots of updates very soon!

First Press Interview!!!

Hi everyone!

Today I have a big milestone for Cabiria - our first Press Interview!!! So unbelievably excited.

Amanda Hudson of Stop and Style contacted me (disclosure: we know each other in real life too) about Cabiria's progress, and has made us their September Stop and Chat! How cool is that?

Here's the whole article on the website Stop and Style NYC, right around the NYFW buzz, too. Again, so cool!

Seriously, check out her site: stopandstylenyc.com it's just lovely for so many great resources. Have a great day! Eden

Location locked!

Hello friends!

I've been Tweeting away in 140 character updates this week, but it's been pretty spectacular for updates. We've got our location for the catalog portion of the photo shoot locked down inside the epic Archive Building in the far West Village:

So far, I have 3 finished sample dresses in my hands, courtesy of the superlative Michael Bevins at 4 Seasons Fashions, who slaved away during NYFW for me. The brilliant photographer Matthew Powell and I have been scouting the exteriors with a lot of promising results. If I haven't already mentioned it, Cabiria is lucky to have the stellar talents of Farrah Olivieri

Maxey Greene

and Allison McGevna

Insane how gorgeous these ladies are! We've also found great, hardworking PA's and the hair and makeup dream team of Fabian Garcia and Stella Sensel, as well as the talented behind the scenes documentary shooter Jendra Jarnagin and our inimitable video segment director Colleen Davie Janes.

SO MANY WONDERFUL PEOPLE!! I am so lucky. Can't wait for this all to come together in a few weeks, but in the meantime, back to paperwork and permits... it can't all be glorious, right? So why am I smiling so wide?

Bucolic settings

Hello friends,

It's been quite the adventure here in Cabiria Studios! There are some aspects to starting a business that are, let's say not my favorite tasks. You learn an incredible amount while reviewing contracts and usage documentation, and you gain skills when programming websites and social media integration, but I tip my hat to those who take pleasure in these tasks and accomplish them well.

To that end, if there are any interns interested on working on locations or on a fashion photo shoot with an incredible team of professionals, please get in touch with me as soon as possible!

The parts I enjoy are having sample fittings and watching the line come together, from research and inspiration, to sketch, to patterns and muslins, to putting on the first finished sample for the line. Incredibly thrilling, even when it's on a humid, sweaty day and the pins are jabbing your tender skin! I was tempted to take a few photos at the fitting yesterday as a sneak peek, but then realized that I want to show you all the beautiful, glamorous side instead.

In the meantime, we're hunting down some Italianate locations around the city. The wonderful part of this, is that I get to play tourist and photographer at the same time, strolling up and down the streets of my beloved town, looking for the perfect frame that steals New York away and transplants you into Italy in the 19th century. Finishing that with a glass of wine with a friend has to be the best part of any job.

Now comes the detective part of this job; tracking down the building management companies, the superintendents, the gatekeepers, literally. So many padlocked gates in the city! I enjoy the detective work, and truly hope it opens doors for my crew to come inside.

In the meantime, I encourage you all to go to your nearest corner bistro, order a lovely glass of wine, and enjoy the upcoming autumn. I will leave you with some of the bucolic sites I saw yesterday. Happy Wednesday! - Eden

Check, check, one two on the microphone

Hello friends,

So many new things happening over here at Cabiria HQ! The photoshoot and video shoot are coming together beautifully, and now I've released my first MailChimp email subscriber newsletter.

I am not a technically gifted girl - I know clothing and plus size fit like the back of my extra large hand - but working with the advanced settings of a social media mailer isn't my strongest suit. If you find anything wonky in any mail you receive, first off, my humblest apologies, but please point them out to me!

In the meantime, this means if you're a subscriber to the newsletter, I believe you will now receive the blog posts automatically as well, and it should let you know on Twitter and the Facebook Cabiria Page as well.

I will leave you with this bit of locations research from our photoshoot hunt. It's a 15th century marble well head turned into a fountain... and we have access!

Talk soon,

Eden
